Minimalism Nature

We've all browsed Pinterest in search for inspiration and new ideas for decorating our home and have seen countless living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms that look astonishing. But as much as we try, we simply cannot replicate their style in our homes. There is always something missing, the room just doesn't have that glow like in the photos. What most people don't understand is that the catch is in detail and sometimes it takes a very keen and experienced eye to notice this. There are dozens of small decisions that go into styling the perfect home such as finding the right lighting, hanging pictures at the right height, not over-furnishing a room, choosing the right rug size etc. Let’s take a look at some common decorating mistakes almost everyone makes when designing their interiors.

Start by creating a plan

Before you go out and buy a bunch of furniture and accessories be sure to create a plan for the space you wish to decorate in terms of style and purpose. Without a layout, you will quickly go adrift, and things are going to become chaotic. That doesn’t mean you have to plan every detail ahead, but you should have a good quality framework. Don’t forget, there are online design tools that could be of help.

Scale the room

Relying on the eye to measure a space is never a good idea. Properly scale the room to avoid overcrowding or under-furnishing the space as bulky furniture will make the room appear small and cramped. If you are dealing with a smaller room opt for smaller furniture in order to open up the space. On the other hand, large furniture is not out of the question if the room can handle it.

Lighting is everything

Lighting is one of the most important things interior designers misjudge. Obviously, you ought to have overhead lighting, but why stop there? Don’t use only one light source because lighting brings the mood to the room. Try experimenting with light, use multiple sources at different heights such as floor lamps and table lamps. Don’t install harsh fluorescent lights, but rather a warm lighting in order to create a warm and intimate feel. If you are able, use mirrors to make use of natural lights as best as you can.

Decorating Tips

Take it easy with the throw pillows

Pillows are affordable and great way to transform the look of a room. But don’t let yourself get carried away as they can easily swallow the bed or sofa and leave you without space to actually sit. Only buy a cushion if you are ready to swap it with an old one. When it comes to pillows it’s all about quality, not quantity.

Fabrics and furniture before paint

When designing a space, color is the first thing that comes to mind. Painting is the most permanent decision you are going to make and can be very time consuming, so the important thing here is not to rush it. Choose the furniture and accessories first and then figure out which paint color fits best.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t take an expert to create the home of your dreams, follow your heart and intuition, make your home a unique oasis where you are always going to feel comfortable.
